IDEO Design Camp

IDEO Design Camp

The revival of D.Camp, now extended to the Bay Area post-Covid, aims to enhance inclusivity and representation in design.

What is D.Camp?

D.Camp, a weeklong summer program in the Bay Area for high schoolers, aims to enhance inclusivity and representation in design. Led by IDEO designers proficient in prototyping, graphic arts, and design research, our goal is to inspire teens to pursue design careers and apply design thinking to everyday problem-solving.

The program involves creative exercises, team challenges, and addresses real-world problems. This year's theme focused on climate change and waste management, guiding participants through design thinking exercises related to these issues. We teach the design thinking process, covering user needs exploration, prototyping methods, collaboration, and presentation skills. Additionally, we bring in professionals to expose teens to various possibilities in the world of design and career paths.

My role at D.Camp

As a co-organizer and camp counselor, I enjoyed nurturing the growth of the campers as designers and creators. My team of campers showcased diverse talents, including video editing, website building, and music creation, enhancing their culminating project. I'm excited about this new generation of designers, witnessing their combination of skills and fascinating imagination to bring our wildest dreams to life.
